Okay, so David and I have been without a lot of starchy and crunchy things. We haven't really been craving the things that we used to consider "staples", like crackers, chips, and breads. But OH MY GOODNESS, I found the BEST cracker recipe!! They are seriously delicious! They have five ingredients. That's it. Five. Taco Potato Anyone?
David and I haven't had a ton of time to devote to nutritarian recipes yet (at least, not as much as I would like!). Because we haven't gotten this cooking thing down yet, we sure do eat just a ton of straight-up salad with not much on the side. "Salad is the main course," says Dr Fuhrman. That's cool and all, and we will definitely eat salad twice a day still, but sometimes I just want something warm to eat! I don't have a large recipe base (yet), but we tried something the other day with potatoes that was extremely enjoyable.
We cooked the potatoes in the microwave. We had found a couple of huge ones at the store, so we actually shared one as a side to go with our salad. It took less than 10 minutes cook time! David is kind of a genius sometimes. He suggested that we put taco seasoning on it when it was done. We used to have a lot of mexican dishes, so we had some in the cabinet. Just leave out the salt and you're nutritarian-approved!
After he suggested the seasoning, I thought that it would be good to also dip the potato into homemade picante sauce.
Oh, man, was it delicious!! It was so quick and easy, and it really really hit the spot.
When I get into some recipes, I will be sure to review and share links to them!
And as for taco-potatoes, well, I'm fairly certain that we will consume more of them tonight. :)

Thanks, Talia! The Brownies Were Fantastic
Last night my hubby took me to the local drive-in movie theater. It was tons of fun and really inexpensive, too! One thing that's great about this particular theater is that they totally condone outside food/drink. This was good news to us, who definitely wouldn't have found anything nutritarian in their cute 50s-cafe. So we went sort of picnic style and took our brown rice & lentil veggie soup, some fresh fruit, and delicious nutritarian brownies! This was the first time that we made them and you would not believe how delicious they were. Seriously.
I had found the recipe on Talia Fuhrman's website (daughter of Dr Fuhrman himself). She has a ton of tasty-looking recipes, as well as a book coming out next month. Here's the link to the recipe:
You'll never guess what's in them...
Our blender was a trooper. We put it through a lot last night.
The best part about these brownies is that you can eat as many of them as you want because they are 100% healthy for you! I still can't get my mind wrapped around that one. I don't have to feel guilt or shame. I don't have to sneak them. When I'm savoring their deliciousness I can relax knowing that they have a lot of nutrients that will help my body not only get/stay slim, but there's a ton of great stuff in them that will help fight diseases. It's just a bonus that I also get my chocolate fix!
So anyone wondering about this nutritarian diet-style--be it known that it really can be delicious!!

So I'm New to This...
Hey all (whoever you are)! Today is day 11 of this nutritarian thing. I thought I should at least document my thoughts, feelings, successes, and failures associated with this style of diet whether anyone cares to read them or not.
Let's see if I can recap the first week and a half of what's happened since my husband and I started this journey...
In the first few days, I definitely was dissatisfied with all of the things that I couldn't consume. I had mad cravings for burgers, ice cream, cookies, diet coke, coffee, yogurt, mac and cheese... pretty much everything. I say 'mad' because when I didn't give in to these cravings, they definitely made me grumpy!
That being said, after eleven days under my belt (which is already about 9 pounds slimmer) I absolutely can't deny feeling as great as I do! And every single day, the temptation to snack on fatty, sugary foods has gotten smaller and smaller and smaller. (So have my waist and thighs!)
My headaches, back pain, and fatigue have miraculously disappeared as well.
Just sayin'.
I don't want to turn this into a testimonial, per say, but I wanted a place that I could purge my brain of all the food-related thoughts floating around while my body is purging the 'bad stuff' that has caused whatever damage I've done to it by eating a typical american diet for 23 1/2 years.
I'm really excited for this change--I may still be saying that for my benefit as much as yours--and for the changes in the lives of the loved ones who are crazily diving into this way of eating with me!
Today's lesson:
Wilted/soggy vegetables are really difficult to eat.
Note(s) to self:
Do not eat week-old green peppers. Also, do not let leafy greens freeze, even by accident. They are slimy when thawed out and extremely difficult to force into your mouth after so many bites.
